CT out of pocket spending averaged $768 per person in 2013
On average, CT residents paid 16.4% of their total health
care bill out of pocket in 2013; the US average was 15.2%, according to a new
analysis by the Health Care Cost Institute. At $768 per person, CT’s
average out of pocket bill was 8.6% higher than the average American and 7.4%
higher than the year before. The new report finds that prices for common treatments
can vary significantly. Nationally, price variations average $130 for a
colonoscopy, $72 for an obstetrical ultrasound, and $444 for cataract removal.
Consumers can save significant sums by shopping around.
